A fake-dating hockey rom-com inspired by Shakespeare’s most combative love story.

POWER PLAY by Erin Weir

Full Circle Theatre presents

The team needs a win. The media needs a scandal. Kate Baptista needs everyone to behave.

Full Circle Theatre hits the ice with Power Play, a brand-new original comedy inspired by Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Set inside the high-pressure world of professional hockey, this enemies-to-lovers rom-com trades Padua’s marriage market for team politics, public image, media spin, and one deeply inconvenient fake relationship.

When the Padua Pythons acquire scandal-prone defenseman Pete Ruff on a one-season contract, Head of Communications Kate Baptista is given a nearly impossible task: keep him clean, keep him quiet, and keep the team from becoming a punchline. But Pete is charming, infuriating, very good at hockey, and absolutely allergic to behaving normally in public.

After one very public moment turns Kate and Pete into the league’s newest obsession, they are forced to play along with a fake relationship that starts looking more real by the day. Unfortunately, Kate’s carefully managed world is already under pressure from team drama, family expectations, complicated sister dynamics, and the relentless machinery of the sports media cycle.

Inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, Power Play reimagines Shakespeare’s battle of wills through a contemporary rom-com lens, asking what happens when control, chemistry, ambition, and reputation all collide. It is sharp, playful, chaotic, and full of Full Circle’s signature blend of irreverent comedy and sneaky emotional damage.

Expect hockey nonsense, fake dating chaos, fast banter, sisterly tension, media meltdowns, and a love story between two people who refuse to lose.
